Mont Saint-Michel, France

I heard about Mont Saint-Michel from a friend of mine when I was visiting him some time ago in Poland. We were talking and having drinks at his place when I noticed a black-and-white paper-printed photo on his wall; he was standing in front of a huge, fabulous mountain in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by water. That was it. That was Mont Saint-Michel.

Pumpkin, aware that her days-off were ending soon, planned the escape-holiday-trip-adventure a week in advance. “We are going to Mont Saint-Michel”, she said.

The trip started very early this morning. I woke up and cooked 6 eggs; Pumpkin made sandwiches. We were armed and ready for a 4-5 hour train ride.

From Titon to Montparnasse to Mont Saint Michel. Augen-Blicken.

Yesterday I watched a documentary on Arte; a Bishop named Aubert ordered in 708 to build an Abbey on Mont-Tombe in honour of the archangel, and the mount soon became a major pilgrimage destination. It took some time for a village to develop down below. During the war, Mont Saint Michel became a fortress until the French Revolution, when they kicked out all the monks and turned it into a prison.

We arrived around noon. It turned out that not only Pumpkin had an idea to be there today. Tourists everywhere. We went inside, and a long, tiny street we took helped.

It was all very touristic, but compared to how it might look like when Mont Saint-Michel would have been in Poland, it was not turistic at all. In Poland we have ads everywhere.

The Abbey on the top was fantastik. The view was splendid.

Normandy is famous for crepes and pink cider. We had both and both were delicious.

The 6-day trip turned out to be a 3-day trip that turned out to be a 1-day.

Back to Paris.

Good night you all all all all all all all.
